DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS Non-Engineered
Overview MTJ will work to solve a client's problems but all costs must be borne by the client. Solving the problem will benefit the client. MTJ must benefit by doing the work, achieving an enhanced reputation and making a profit by applying its problem solving skills and knowledge.
There must be a "STATEMENT OF INTENT AND UNDERSTANDING" signed by the client.
PROCESS What is the solution worth to the client? (client's homework) The outcome of a successful development must be a benefit to the client. A value should be placed on the expected benefit. The client will have to justify, internally, the development expense by recouping it from the savings. For major projects this will be measured against a pay-back period of perhaps one to three years.
What is the maximum allowable expense if the development fails. What is the client prepared to invest without achieving the desired, measurable results?
When is the development successfully complete? Before a contract is entered into; the client must define the measurable acceptance criteria that represent a satisfactorily completed development. This approach applies to each stage of a development.
If "it" cannot be measured, "it" can only finish if the client is emotionally disposed to say that "it" is successful. This would leave MTJ at the whim of a client's changing management and market conditions.
If very fine measurements are required for the acceptance testing, who's instrumentation will be used and how will it be calibrated.
Where will the tests be conducted and who will conduct them?.
Will the client's employees be displaced by the development or have to work in a changed environment? People don't like change! If this is the case, they should not be part of the acceptance criteria, or know anything about the development otherwise the probability of failure is increased substantially.
Other considerations Suitable testing samples should be provided at no cost to MTJ. Because the mechanical ideas synthesized by MTJ are perceived by MTJ; MTJ shall have the free and clear right to further develop and market the machine, device or mechanism, should MTJ wish to do so.
Financing should be progressive to defray MTJ's costs.
