Lock out the machine and obtain operating manual(s) from client.

7.1

ELECTRICAL PANELS – External check.

Is the panel closed when the process is in operation.

Check for broken or damaged breaker levers & lock-outs, switches, buttons, gauges, cable restraints & all exterior cable panel connections, bare or damaged wires.

 

7.2

LIGHTS, GUARDS,  GATES & SUPPORT WHEELS. Have the operator check/prove the interlocks.

Check for damage, rubbing, broken or missing attachments.

Check light bulbs, locks, hinges & hasps.

Check rollers, wheels &  foot and hand brakes.

 

7.3

 

OPERATING LEVERS, BUTTONS, HANDWHEELS, CRANKS & CAMS

Completeness and condition

INSTRUMENTS, GAUGES &  DIALS.

SLIDES, TABLES, GIBS, SPLINES & LEADSCREWS.

Check wear & lubrication

Check slides and tables for level.

Check lead screws & splines for back lash.

KEYS, COLLARS, RETAINING RINGS & LOCKING RINGS. Check they are in place.

CIRCLIPS, COTTER PINS, ROLL PINS, LOCK NUTS

BELTS, DRIVE BANDS, CHAINS & SPROCKETS.

Remove chain guards and check belts and bands for tension, cracks and wear. Are any missing.

Record belt type, size and number. Ask client supervisor if they keep spare belts/chain in stock?

As necessary, treat with belt dressing or grease chains.

Table top belts. Check direction is correct & catenary.

Check sprockets for wear, loose keys and set screws.

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced and oil baths and condition.

Replace guards.

GEARS & SCROLLS. Mesh, keys, teeth, set screw

GEARBOXES, REDUCERS, CRANK CASES.  

First time record the information from the ID plate.

Check oil levels

Check that breathers are in place and clear.

Check for leaks

Add oil as necessary. Make sure that sight glasses are clear and functioning when oil added.

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced.

RESERVOIRS. Clean oil reservoirs, are filters involved?

 

7.12

FILTERS. Check filters, size and type, cleanliness.

 

7.13

VALVES. Check for operating flow control.

Pressure test safety valves on air receivers.

Check glands and seals for leaks.

 

7.14

PISTONS, RAMS & CYLINDERS

Check for leaks.

 

7.15

PRESSURE PIPES, TUBES, HOSES & FITTINGS.

Check for leaks and damage.

 

7.16

ATMOSPHERIC VENTS & DAMPERS

Check for blockage and operation.

 

7.17

BEARINGS. Roller, ball, Babbitt, bushings

Check for grease, noise, heat and other signs of failure.

 

7.18

MOTORS. Check motors. First time record the information from the ID plate.

Electrical box exterior connections and cover plate.

Housings, shrouds, belts, couplings & bearings.

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced

 

7.19

FANS, BLOWERS, COOLING SYSTEMS

Housings, shrouds, belts, couplings & bearings.

Is there any way to check flow?

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced

 

7.20

CLUTCHES. Check clutches (Types – plate, dog, magnetic, fluid transmission)

Bearings, plate thickness, spring tension, trigger mechanism,

Is lubrication involved if so, what  is to be checked?

 

7.21

COUPLINGS. Remove coupling guards and check wear.

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced and oil baths and condition.

Record condition of spacers or inserts if accessible.

Record undue wear or obvious misalignment.

Replace guards.

 

7.22

PUMPS.  First time record the information from the ID plate. Check glands and seals for leaks.

Check pressure and flow gauges are functioning

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced

 

7.23

FLYWHEELS. Check fly wheels, bearings, brakes, guards, balance.

Record number of grease nipples to be serviced

 

7.24

BRAKES Check for functionality.
 

7.25

CONVEYORS. Conveyor drives, bands, drive chains, tracking, belt, chain, skate or roller condition, sprockets, guarding.
