ABOUT PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE (P.M.)
The old adage says, "If it
ain't broke, don't fix it"
This is untrue
if the cost of production downtime exceeds the cost of repair. |
Preventative Maintenance consists of:
Monitoring the wear and tear occurring to machinery and systems. |
Lubricating and cleaning machines to mitigate the effects of wear and tear. |
Replacing protective items such as filters, at a frequency recommended by the
original equipment manufacturer (OEM). |
A derivative of the PM program will be:
A plan and schedule for any repairs of a more extensive nature. |
Forewarning about any systems or processes that are deteriorating. |
Purchase of appropriate lubricants and replacement parts, so they are on
hand. |
